Choosing the Right Racket

Hit The Nick - Racketball Buying Guide

After asking some of the countries top players, we pieced together the information and separated this into the following 5 sections for our racketball buying guide.

Price

There are many different racketball rackets. However, price and weight are generally the two deciding factors. Budget rackets are available with a general starting price of £20, rising to performance rackets around £100.

Weight

A general beginner’s or starter’s racket will often be heavier and weigh between 190-200g. The most popular weighting would be around 170 grams and this is where most manufacturers would highlight as their target market.

Lighter weightings tend to favour a more specialist market and for those players trying to generate more racket head speed with shots. Currently the lightest racket would be the Harrow Flo at 150 grams.

String

Pre-strung rackets generally would perform better with a restring to improve all-round performance. This would apply to any competitive racketball player looking to utilise racket work at a higher level for a tournament or match scenario.

Balance

Balance can vary therefor a head heavy racket will feel heavier however that will be down to balance rather than the overall weight. Head heavy rackets will promote more impact whereas a lighter will generate more speed. General club standard players would benefit from an even racket weight.

Handle size.

For those favouring what is known as a traditional squash handle (long handle), Pointfore is the only brand utilising this. Wilson racketball rackets tend to have the smallest handle size but have a larger hitting area with a big racket head, allowing for more power and control. Harrow racketball rackets can generate much greater racket head speed purely down to the sheer lightness and frame simplicity. Harrow rackets have an average size handle that would suit most players.
